Settlers in Texas

In Texas, there are many settlers. According to the Mier y Teran Report, there were more than twice the amount of settlers in Texas than in Mexico. Who do you think populated Texas the most and the least?

Mexican Settlers

Technically, the Mexican settlers did not immigrate into Texas. Texas was still part of Mexico before the wars, so legally they just didn't leave. Since people in Mexico didn't want to leave every thing they had like a house, family, friends, and personal belongings that were to big to take, they didn't want to go to Texas. Since people in Mexico wouldn't emmigrate to Texas the Mexican government wanted immigrants from other countries to go to texas and protect the land from the Naeive Americans.After the wars, they were just there in the land that had once belonged to them.

Spanish Settlers

The picture shows a group of Spanish People having a party of some sort.

While the Spanish settlers were in Texas, they built missions to convert the Native Americans to the Sanish religion. Along with the missions, they also built presidos to train soldiers against those who would not be converted. Spain  was at the time fighting France, so they tried to convert the Indians to gain more troops for the military. there were very few people who settled in Texas. the ysettled in mostly the Southern part of Texas. They settled between the 1600's and 1700's. Anglo Americans Settlers

This picture shows some Anglo American Settlers shooting down some birds (hopefully) with rifles.

 Anglo Americans were basically "Americans" who had already settled in Texas because of cheaper lands, opportunities, and more time to pay off the debts in which they already owe someone or the government some money. They built farms and towns in East Texas. they wanted to start a new life with promising new opportunities. There were many Anglo American people settling in Texas.

The Difference Between The Two Cultures

Spaniards came to Texas for gold, god, and glory. They wanted to expand also, so they took Texas for themselves. They settled in Texas, but they were kicked out by Mexico. There were only a few, but most worked in presidios and missions.The Anglos came to Texas because they were in debt, cheap land, and a better Government. There were many of them and most of them were farmers.

Similarities between the Two Cultures

Both of these cultures, the Spanish and the Anglo Americans had trouble with the Natives living in Texas. Whenever they tried to build a town of some establishment, the Indians came along and raided the settlers. But who could blame them!!! The settlers came into the land thinking it was their's to take, and that the Natives wouldn't be one bit angered by their actions. think of it as if somebody walked into your house and made themselves at home. WOULD YOU APPRECIATE THAT?!!! Now that you know what was going through the Natives heads, you should believe that they had every right in the world to attack the settling people.

Spain was kicked out of Mexico, and Mexico was kicked out of Texas. Who do you think got the raw end of the deal, and who do you think got the better deal?
